GeriActors and Friends
GeriActors & Friends (G&F) is supported by the Department of Drama and Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta. It is based at SAGE (Seniors Association of Greater Edmonton).
G&F is made up of seniors from SAGE and the “Friends” are students from the University of Alberta. We range in age from early twenties to late eighties. Few of the seniors have previous theatrical experience, but most have expressed childhood longings to perform. We are wheelchair friendly and welcome people with disabilities.
The intergenerational nature of the company generates new energy, brilliant ideas, a great sense of fun, and lasting friendships. Our seniors learn new skills, develop self-confidence, enjoy public performance, and do things they thought were impossible. Many students stay with the company long after their course work is complete.
We give 15-20 performances a year to audiences of seniors and their families, students, health professionals and the general public.
“It’s like a tapestry, we’re always making collages of our ideas and stories; somehow we are all one.”
